My Progress 2017

Here is the progress I have made this year in Maths, basic fast, reading, writing and spelling. I think I have made good progress in writing because at the beginning of the year I was 2a now I am 3p.

Camp 2017

Last week we went to camp at Coopers Beach. In my group I had: Presley, Mitchel, Lucas, Imogen, Leonor, Cameron, Teziah and Me of course! My camp parents were: my dad, Cameron’s dad Rob and Teziah’s Nan Angela.

First, we went fishing than we went to the rock pools at Cooper's Beach.  On Thursday we did the water slide and the confidence course. Then on Friday we did the same only we had to go home. Here is my presentation about camp.  

Robots

Last week we did some robotics. On Monday we did some robotics as well. Yesterday we made some poems. The robots that we had are: DASH and BEI BOT. The other things we had are: Scratch, Bloxils and much more! This is my poem

Pet day

On Thursday we made Vaseline saucers. We decorated them with a symmetrical pattern. Some of us followed our draft that we made and some of us didn’t. Some of the Vaseline saucers might be going to the Waimate North Show and some will get 1st, 2nd and 3rd prize. At the parade we played some funky music. At the parade I saw some sheep, calves, creepie crawlies, bunnies, cats and a lot more. Sam even brought an EEL!!! There were also some fish and birds.

After the parade we had some fun animal themed games to play.

Garden to Table

Last week we started Garden to Table.

This week my group were in the garden. We planted the little gardens and weeded the rest of the garden from last weeks unfinished garden.

Last week I was in the kitchen. Last week for cooking we baked:

• Herb scones
• Yummy dip (guacamole and hummus)
• Baguettes
• Salad  

This week for the cooking they baked:

• Carrot muffins (delicious!)
• Flat bread (also delicious!)
• Salad
• Pumpkin dip, beetroot dip and cheesy dip.

My garden to table group is Red Radishes: Group C. We are called Pumpkin Power!

Now that I know the creative things you can do with fruit and veg. I love them now because I can make them at home.

Hot Air Balloon Art

For art we created Hot Air Balloons. We used pastel for the background. We used dye and black PVA glue for the background. We weaved the basket.  My favourite part was the black PVA glue because it was fun and messy.

Maths Strategy

In class we've been learning how to do maths strategys. Here is a maths strategy I am good at. I will share how to do FINDING THE MISSING NUMBER.  

Skittles!!

In our skittles writing we were learning how to do show not tell.  🅢🅢🅢 

I think I am doing well at doing using juicy words.

I think I need to work on the amount of time it takes to write my story. 

Collaborative Bird Wings

We made some collaborative bird wings. We dyed our bird wings with primary complimentary colours. I did yellow and purple.

1. You need to draw patterns on the feather-shaped piece of paper.
2. You need to go over your patterns in white crayon.
3. You have to dye your feather two colours. You have to get a primary colour and a complimentary colour  

Kites

We made a kite out of Flax Sticks and Newspaper. I was buddies with Leonor. We tried to make our kite look like a fish, all we did was make the sticks underneath look like a fish and then we drew on the newspaper. Conclusion: The second flying fish in the world apparently did not succeed. As soon as we tried to fly it, it collapsed.     

  

Measuring Perimeter

We have been learning about measurement. We each did a google draw about something that relates to measurement. I chose Finding Perimeter. Here is my Screencastify. My Screencastify tells you how perimeter works. 

Science Fair

We have been learning about the scientific method. We have been learning to do science experiments that we are going to show at the school Science Fair today.

Today at school I dressed up as Cat in the Hat. We chose a Dr Seuss quote and illustrated it.

Paper Spinners

We made paper spinners for maths. We had to use our fractions and shapes knowledge to help us fold our spinner. We decorated our spinner with patterns and shapes.We battled our paper spinners with a friend  My paper spinner is good at winning.  Here is me and Leonor having a battle

Here is my recount I wrote about a wedding I went to in the holidays.

A Wedding

OMG! This place was beautiful. I was at a wedding in a friend's garden. At the wedding there were two big ponds that had eels in them. My step cousin and I were feeding the little one until Uncle Tom came over and said, “have you seen the massive eels in the other pond?” “Come on let's go and see the big ones” said Catlin. Soon we found out that there were two gigantic ones in the bigger pond. There was a light blue one and a dark blue one. The dark blue one was the father of four cute tiny eels and the light blue one was the mother.
At the big pond I discovered a swing so we took videos and photos with Catlin’s phone. But the tree that the swing was hanging from was by a stream. Caitlin and I were scared because we didn’t know how strong the swing was. We swung over the stream anyway. We heard the adults doing speeches so we rushed over and listened to the rest of the speeches. Kerry, the bride's sister did a speech and her little girl Olivia wanted to say something so she said, “do do.”  
For afternoon tea there was boring snack things but on another table there were Easter eggs, sweet sticks, milk bottles, jelly babies, fruit bursts but best of all a CAKE!!

Silly sentences

We have been writing simple sentences. We have been learning how to write correct sentences. To practice we have been doing silly sentences. we chose our favourite to illustrate.

The noisy black puffin swam on the bouncy trampoline.

The loud pet  cicada paddled the hot air balloon.

The hungry awkward goat shot his gun in the fridge.

The flippy floppy dolphin was pouncing and bounding on my bed.

The brown sleepy kiwi galloped in a jar of jam.

A strange hippopotamus crawled into the library and went under my chair.

Easter bunny

Last week we did some Easter bunny art. We had to put glasses on our bunny. For the background we marbled. Our bunnies had patterns all over them. My bunny had stars, waves and lots of other things. For marbling you got to chose two colours to mix together. Easter art was fun. I hope we do it again.🐰

In the Beginning  

How it all started  

At first there was Rangi the sky father and Papa the earth mother. They were together until their children didn’t like the cramped place. When the 6 mini gods had Ideas of getting out of the dark place they all tried to separate their parents. First Tangaroa tried but he couldn’t separate his parents. Tu got angry and suggested that he kills his parents. Tawhirimatea sat sadly and thought it was cruel to pull apart his parents. Tane had an idea, he pushed legs against Rangis chest and boosted him into the air. The mini gods were free and they had their own god jobs to do. That how humans came to life.

Triathlon 

 ‘’Go, Go!’’ I shouted as the boys ran past. (Turns out little kids are pretty fast.) I was so excited. ‘’Year 3 and 4s please line up here’’ directed Mrs Gardiner. Year 3 girls were first then year 3 boys. Finally it was year 4 girls. First girls swam 2 lengths of the deep cold pool. Honestly, it was so cold and so deep. My arms were going as fast as they could. My arms felt like propellers on a helicopter. I did like four rainbow arms and then took a breath. Next we hopped out and got a bike. I walked it to the gate. We got on at Mrs Craig and rode it down Mr Lawrence's driveway to Mrs Clarke. I went wide and then in another gate, around the bike track to the big rock. Then we hopped off and lined our bike up. Finally we ran to the empty bike shed and around the back to the pumpkin patch (which doesn’t really have any pumpkins). Then we raced to Nanny Pam and up the steep hill to Jamie's mum, down past the playground and across the finish line. “Do you want some milk?” asked Mrs Whitelaw. “Yes please,” I said with a puff. I drank it then I folded it. The memo for the milk is Drink it dry, Fold it flat Send it back. Brooke and I were watching the Year 5 and 6s do their bits and pieces. Brooke was begging me to ask if we could go to the bake sale. I said we can go after the race. When the race was finished we got Leonor and set sail for the bake sale. Brooke got 3 cupcakes, Leonor got 4 and shared them and I got 5 different but tasty cupcakes!

Today was the best PE ever because we did co-operative races and hula hooping. In hula hooping we had to hold hands in a circle to try and get the hula around. For racing we had to get into groups.  We had to get the whole team over to a certain place without touching the ground. (If you were wondering the teams had coloured discs that you had to land on.
