Team Moana Hangi - Eating Edition

Kia Ora!!!
As you know we have been doing a hangi. This blog post is about the eating. The best part.
So we pulled it out of the hole and took it to the table.
Girls got there plates and lined up at the table. I got a bit of everything. I ate some stuffing and some fried bread. The rest I tinfoiled for Dad. Before we ate our food, we took a photo.
I liked this because this was my first hangi.
I didn't really like was that it was a really hot day and it even hotter when we watched the hangi.
I would enjoy doing a hangi again.

Animal Report

Hello fellow bloggers,
This week we did a animal report about an animal we wished was our pet. I chose a Guinea Pig because I have wanted one since I was little.
I love!!!!!!!!! Doing animal reports. I LOVED this whole task!

What I didn't like was the draft paper that we had to start on. It didn't really make sense.

Anyway, amongst all of that here is the final piece of art!

Team Moana Hangi Preparation - Hole Edition

Kia Ora,
Welcome back to my blog.
For the last few weeks of this term we have been having hangis catered by the students and supervised by our wonderful Matua Ken. Our hangi is this Friday.
We made a movie about the preparation to the hole. Denym, Leonor and I made a really cool movie.
I was the filmer, while Leonor and Denym were the actors.
The easy\fun part was making and watching our movie.
The hard\not-fun part was probably writing out the preparation of the hole.
Here is our video;

Christmas Decorations

Hello fellow bloggers,
for the past few days (two) we have been making Christmas decorations. We made them to sell at our Whanau Event. I was originally in a pair with T-man (Teziah) but then he went and made his own creations.
The first thing was snow woman. Her name was Judy. I also made a reindeer named Joey. Today I made a husband for Judy. His name is John. At home I am going to make their child called Jake.
The thing I liked: Being Creative.
The thing I disliked: Following the rules of this task and the fact that the power went off.
I made these people by using paint, toilet rolls, paper, pom-poms, pipe cleaners and glue.
Goodbye, Georgia.
Here are some photos:

Spelling Task

Hello, bloggers.
Tomorrow, we are having a spelling test so we have been practicing by selecting words from list 6-8 essential. We had to write the syllables, a sentence with the word and the root word of the sentence.
This task was fun because I got to learn what a root word is.
This task was hard because I had to re-think about a complex or compound sentence for a lot of my words.
The learning behind this task was to learn words for our spelling test tomorrow.
I would so do this task again if I could.
Here are my slides about the spelling task:

Magaret Peters Spelling Test

Kia ora everyone!
Today, we sat the Margaret Peters Spelling Test. I scored 50 which gives me a spelling age of 13.3 years
At the beginning of the year, I scored 46 and had a spelling age of 12.9 years.

So, I improved my spelling age by 4 words. I am actually 11 years and 3 months old.

I think I got this result because I was confident this morning.
See you next time!

Hot Air Survival

Hello!
Last week we did a science experiment with Miss Fletcher. We had to put yeast, sugar and warm water into a bottle. Then, we had to wait until the balloon had risen. While the balloon was rising we had to take observation notes. We wrote all of this into a Google Slides. After we did the science part we did some creative writing.
I liked this task because we got to do creative writing after we finished.
This task was hard to find deeper information about the task.
Here is my Slideshow:

Greats and Grands Day 2019

This week we are having Greats and Grands Day. We do prizes for oldest grandparent and furthest traveled + more. My Grandma would win shortest distance traveled because she works in the office at school.
So this year we made a book for our grandparents using Google Slides. Every year I do something about Grandma, so this year I did most things about Grandad.
The thing I liked about this task was the idea of making a book for my grandparents. And making fudge.
The thing I didn't like about this task was writing the fudge recipe. I didn't like this because I only found out towards the end that it said everything else about the fudge at the bottom of the website.
I found this task easy because I know a lot about my grandparents so it was easy to write about them.
What was hard in this task was really nothing I guess. This task was fun and easy to do. Some people wouldn't agree though.
Here is my slideshow about Grandad. And Grandmas chocolate pudding.
Enjoy!!

Movies!!! In Progress

Hi!!!!!
For the past week or so, we have been making movies for a competition. I'm in a group with Saphera, Grace, Hayley, Ellie, Kora and Heidi. Our first movie didn't work, so we started a second yesterday. Our first movie was a Murder. Our second movie is about an old abandoned hospital and we all go missing. We have the help from Leonor (Camera woman and Director) and Brooke (Lead Actor and Director).
I was surprised when I found that our movie wasn't working and that our scenes disappeared. But, I am excited for our  second movie because I feel like it will be quite fun to film.
I think that the others not knowing their lines was very frustrating and hard. Getting the green screen to work was very hard as well.
I found that filming the outside scenes was quite easy because we didn't have to worry about green screen.
Overall, I really like movie making so far. We have had a few dramas along the way, but we solved those.
Bye!!!!!!

Science Fair Thursday 12 September

Kia Ora People!!
Yesterday we had a whole school Science Fair. I was in a group with Saphera, Grace and Arbey. Our science question was: How do different food items react when placed in vinegar. We had a lot of mishaps, problems and fights along the way, but we completed it.
Ka kite!!

Comparing Good Characters

Kia Ora!!
This week, we are learning about the ways writers describe good characters in their stories. We had to read several texts and then create a Comparison Matrix to show how the Clothing, Personalities and Physical Appearance of the good characters were similar.
The hard part was: to think of all their skin colours because they all have similar colours.
The easy part was: to write their outfits because I know a lot about Disney Princesses.

Rhythm

This is my DLO about rhythm in poetry. We had to find rhythm in different poems. I like doing these tasks because creating the DLOs are fun.  This is mine about peas and honey. ENJOY!!

T3 Learning Journy

This is my T3 Learning Journy. I have improved lots through out the year. ENJOY!

Coding with Cassandra

Hello fellow bloggers! Today for math we did some coding. We did it with someone called Cas. It was so fun. It was really hard to figure out where the danger points went and also figure out where the scientist had to go. What was easy was when I had to find out what scientist and what life form to use. I really enjoyed this task.

See you later Bloggers!!

Poetry Lesson No 1 Bio Poem

Last week we did bio poems for our poetry writing. We had to add in our names and things about ourselves. This task was fun because I love writing about myself. What I found hard was to think of adjectives to describe myself. What I found easy was to think of what I would put for what my wishes and hopes for the future. This is my Bio Poem:

Poetry Lesson 2 What is rhyme?

Today we did our poetry Friday first rotation. We learnt abut how things rhyme. We got to choose what poem we wanted to make a DLO for. I chose one about rats loving each other. We had to highlight which words rhymed. Our Learning Object is:
Learn:`
1: That rhyme is a main ‘clue’ that a piece of writing might be poetry.
.
2: What rhyme is.
This is my DLO, enjoy!

Forces

Hello bloggers!
This term we have been learning about forces and motion. It is only 4th day of school.
We did a template of forces.
My favourite part of this task was learning about forces.
Forces are very fun to learn about because they are confusing and I like trying to work things out.
What I found easy was to lay out my DLO because I didn't lay it out exactly.
What I found hard was to find some ways to do my writing it out in my own words.
I really loved this tasked.
Here is my work:

Inquiry Term 2

Kia Ora!
It is the last week of term, and so we are finishing our inquiry project we started a couple of weeks ago. 1 thing I enjoyed was the fact that we got to choose what we wanted to learn about.
The 1 thing that was hard was getting some information because the WiFi\internet was out so we had to use books. Some books didn't have the information I wanted.
2 facts I learnt was that some people think aliens will look like us, and another word for life in the universe is extraterrestrial life. The learning behind this task was to find the answer to a wondering I had about Planet Earth And Beyond. My wondering was:
Is there life in the universe?
So that was my inquiry photo.
Here is my slide:

Leaves Task

Kia Ora Guys!
This week we have been doing a leaf activity. We went around the school and collected leaves to write creative writing about. I did a song to the tune of: 'London Bridge Is Falling Down'. Mrs Fletcher read it out to the class. It was funny hearing something that I wrote. What I found hard was to think of the verses to make my own. I found it was easy to think of what creative thing I was going to do. I really enjoyed this task because we got to go outside, and I love the outside world. Next Wednesday, when Mrs Fletcher is back in, we will be doing a science experiment on why\how the leaves change colour.
Thanks, Georgia. Here is my work:

Leaves (tune to London Bridge Is Falling Down)
-------------------------------------------------------
The leaves on the trees are falling off
Falling off, falling off
The leaves on the trees are falling off
My fair lady

Pick them up and throw them away
Throw them away, throw them away
Pick them up and throw them away
My fair lady

But the leaves would just fall again
Fall again, fall again
But the leaves would just fall again
My fair lady

Have a leaf fight with your friends
With your friends, with your friends
Have a leaf fight with your friends
My fair lady

But the leaves will get stuck in your hair
In your hair, in your hair
But the leaves will get stuck in your hair
My fair lady

Oh, just have some fun
Have some fun, have some fun
Oh, just have some fun
My fair lady

But then mum called out, come inside
Come inside, come inside
But then mum called out, come inside
My fair lady

No more fun for us
For us, for us
No more fun for us
Now that we’re inside

Earthquakes Task

Kia ora!
Recently we have been doing earthquake tasks for literacy. I chose to do the reporter task. Part one was to add in information about my chosen earthquake. Part two was to film you reporting the earthquake. We had some trouble with the movie, so we couldn't put it in. What I found hard was to make the lighting in the green screen room right, and to have no see through things in the movie. What was easy was to find the green screen images for the 2011 Christchurch Earthquake. The learning behind this task was to learn about certain earthquakes and for me, how to use the green screen. I really liked this task because it was fun and challenging, and I always love a challenge.

Myth Writing

Kia Ora Everyone!
For the past few weeks we have been doing myth writing. We had to choose a natural phenomenon and make a myth about why we have them or how they happen. The learning behind  this task was to learn how to describe things specifically and to learn the structure of a myth. What I enjoyed was actually writing the myth. It was really fun. Only because it was a myth and you can add almost anything into a myth. What I found tricky was to think of what phenomenon I was going to do because I had so many ideas. What I have learnt from this is to describe certain things properly. Next time I would probably write less and do my paragraphs better.
Bye, blog you later!
This is my work:

Why We Have Avalanches
On a cold snowy mountain top, stood a skier. It was exactly 10am. The exact time snow falls. Snow came from the snow cloud filled sky. Trees were frozen with icicles hanging from their bare branches. The ski prints that were planted on the mountain faded away as more snow fell. The snow was piling higher.  “Here I go!!!!!” were the loud and rumbling words that came from the masked skier.

Faster than lightning the masked skier raced down the ski slope. The chair lift came closer and closer into sight. People in yellow vests became visible. Splish! The Masked Skier came to a stop, sending snow everywhere. People were drowned in snow.

The next day, the ski slope was closed because an avalanche was due. “Pah!” said The Masked Skier “It is a big snowfall today. I wanna ski!” He thundered. He tread through the ropes that had been put up to block of the ski slope. The chairlifts weren’t going so The Masked Skier had to walk up the mountain instead.

Meanwhile underground…
“Today is my time to shine” explained the Underground God, Nepulus. “I will make an avalanche!” Nepulus always had a big feast going. Only because he was very vain and thought he was boss of the world. Nepulus was a very evil god that
captured the sky goddesses and made them his slaves.

Upperland…
The Masked Skier was clipping on his skis when he felt a whole bunch of cold and icy snow fall on top of him. “Stupid snow” muttered the masked skier. More snow fell. The Masked Skier regretting going up the mountain now, but it was to late. He had his skies on and had to go down the mountain.
His skies were making tracks down the hill side. The snow started to crack, the snow fell. The Masked Skier was swept away by icy whiteness. Nepulus was having his avalanche party down under the Earth’s surface.

Bang! The Masked Skier hit something hard. Suddenly, he felt an arm grab him. He was out of the snow and in front of a fire. Why am I in front of a fire? Thought The Masked Skier. “Hello, I’m Philip. Who are you?” asked a suspicious voice. the masked skier was startled to hear a voice as no one should have been around as the ski slope was shut. “I, I’m Chris, Chris Pickle” replied the masked skier.

“What happened?” Asked Chris. “Nepulus made an avalanche” said Philip. Chris had gotten used to this person now. Just not the place. It was a wooden cabin. Probably Philips house. It had only a bathroom. No other room was in sight. The only lights were 7 candles and the fire. “Who is Nepulus?” wondered Chris. “Nepulus is the underground god. Twice every winter he holds a dance party and it makes an avalanche. Only here because he lives right under this mountain in the winter” explained Philip. “Oh” said Chris

“Does he make the earthquakes as well?” Chris asked curiously. “Yes, yes he does. He moves around and bangs against the crust of the earth. That is how we have earthquakes.” Chris was nodding his head up and down.
Suddenly, it all made sense…

Structure of the Earth Create Task

Kia Ora Everyone!
Recently, we have been doing a create task about the structure of the Earth. I first made an animation, but then I finished it. So, I made a comic.
What I found hard was to get everything inside my comic box.
What was easy was to make my comic because I already knew everything from my animation.
What I found easy for my animation was to think up the professors name.
What I found hard was to get the to be cut in half. This is my work and my PMI chart.
The learning behind this task was to learn about the layers of the earth.
For some people it was also to learn how to make comics, animations or forms, it also sometimes was to learn how to use all the technical tools.
See you later!

Georgia's Maths Understandings

Hello
This week we have been working on Equal Adjustments. What was hard in this activity was to do the extra activities for the people that finished the others. What was easy was to figure out my word problems. We have been working on Equal Adjustments for a couple of weeks now. When you get to know how to do Equal Adjustments, they are really fun and easy. The learning behind this task was to practice Place Value Partitioning and Equal Adjustments. This is my slideshow.
Thanks Georgia!

Is the Earth like a hard-boiled egg?

Kia Ora!
We are learning about what the Earth is like on the outside and the inside. We used hard-boiled eggs as mini-models for the earth. We got to design our own continents and islands on the outside of the egg shell. At the end of the experiment we got to eat the egg!

Mixed Ability Maths

Hello!
This term we have been working in mixed ability maths groups to help us work out a maths word problem.
How did I feel?
I felt good, but sometimes got annoyed when the boys in my group drew a lot and didn't work out the question. Often the drawings were of very unrelated things.
What have I enjoyed?
I really enjoyed seeing how others in my group worked out the answer, and comparing their strategy with mine. Usually in our group we had our own thinking and didn't work very well together. Especially when it came to when we had to work out a question altogether.
What I have felt difficult?
I felt that it was really difficult to work out the questions when my group did not work together very well.
Why I found this tricky?
My group, when we did not work together, would talk over the top of each other. After that, the question barely got done.
What can I do to change my negative thinking?
Try to use questions to help group my group work together and communicate better.
Goodbye! See you later.

The Living World

Hello,
This is my living world slideshow. For the next 5 or 6 weeks we will be choosing our own
activities to learn about the living world.
We did a multiple intelligences test to see what kind of learner we were.
My top three ways of learning intelligences are;
1. Linguistic
2. Interpersonal
3. Kinesthetic
I am looking forward to working with other people throughout the year.

It was interesting because I got to explore the outside world.

Earthworms

Hello fellow bloggers! This week (25.3.19-29.3.19) we learnt about earthworms with Mrs Fletcher and Mrs H. We had to put ourselves into groups of 3-5 to collect earthworms. I was in a group with Annelise, Brooke S and Saphera (There was also me!). My presentation is still a work in progress because I have to still gather some information and finish a couple of tasks. What I found hard was to actually find the earthworms. What was easy was to create names for the worms and to find what the worms liked the best. Our worm names were:
Worm Number 1: Jarred
Worm Number 2: Jerry
Worm Number 3: Tiny Tony
We put black paper over one side of the container, to see what kind of place the worms liked best. Darkness or Light. Then our group put some grass, leaves and dead plants in the container. This stuff was the worms food. After that we put in some soil for the worms to play in. We made a playground. It was devastating to put the worms back in the bucket because we really liked learning about worms. I learnt that the earthworms didn't like the lino because it was too cold and that they liked the darkness. I think they liked the darkness because it felt like they were underneath the soil. Also because the probably wanted to hide from us and the birds. Here are the links: To Do Tasks Do,

See you next time bloggers!
Thanks, Georgia!

Mrs Gren Report.

Hello fellow blogger! Georgia here with another great blog post.
Today, (21.3.2019) we have been doing a small animal report. It was based on MRS GREN. MRS GREN is an acronym to help you remember what a life form has to do to be a life form. What I found difficult was to find out my facts. The reason I found this hard was because sometimes the internet didn't give me what I needed. What was easy was to find the picture of a cat. It's just my cat from home!  Something that helped me was my friends. Some of my friends knew facts about cats that I didn't know. I learnt that cats can smell different poops apart. (That was very surprising!) I hope you enjoy reading my mini report. See you soon!

Figure Me Out

This week was our first week back at school. Today and yesterday we did and activity called figure me out. We had to work out equations to answer questions about ourselves. For example: My age: 20-10. We had to work in groups of 2 or 3 to write down our equations on the first day. Then we worked separately on Google Draw to make it. We had to make it colorful and funky because it is going on the wall. I worked with a boy called Mitchel. I learnt a lot about him from his equations. What I found tricky was to figure out what I was going to use for equations. Here is mine:

All About Me Activity 1

Kia Ora Fellow Bloggers! Today we started doing some 'All about me'  activities. I did the activity called, A Snippet Of My Summer. I did my story on the Kumeu Car Show. I went to it in the holidays. Read my story to find out more. Ka kite ano!
