Summer Learning Journey activity 2: My Hometown

Hello! Today we have to describe our hometown. Well here is my story:
Thank you for watching. Goodbye.

Summer Learning Journey activity 1: Top 3 Things About NZ

Kia ora fellow bloggers! It is finally the summer holidays. For the holidays to keep me busy I have signed up to do the Summer Learning Journey. In this you have to do as many activities as you can throughout the summer holidays. Every task is worth a certain number of points. At the end you get prizes for the amount of blogs and comments you did. Today's task to write your Top 3 things about NZ. Here are my three:
1: NZ is nicknamed Aoeteroa because it means land of the Long White Cloud.
2: Our capital is Wellington, but the biggest city in NZ is Auckland.
3: Our Bird is the Kiwi. The Kiwi is a flightless bird.
Well, that was it for today. See you again tomorrow with another blog post.
Good Bye!

Our Comic Strip

This Thursday (November 1st 2018) we made comics. We read the book The Legend Of Rock, Paper, Scissors. We could make our comic from characters from the book or two class room objects. We had to make a duel. A duel is a battle or a fight. My comic is about a pen and a pencil fighting over who will get picked. Give me some comments about other comics that I could do. Here is mine. I hope you enjoy.

Explanation writing T4

This is my explanation writing for Term 4. Our prompt was to write to describe one environmental problem and explain what people can do to reduce its impact on the planet. I think I did better this time because I have better spelling, grammar and punctuation. You could give me tips in the comments on how to improve my explanation writing. Here they are:
      Old one:

              What a good friend is

Have you ever wondered what a good friend is?

Well a good friend is someone who looks after you,

has fun with you and you can protect each other from

the bullies around the school. Good means you are a kind, loving  person.

Firstly, having a good friend is great because they can

look after you. So when your hurt your friend will take you and look after. Also when your feeling down

they can make you feel better by cheering you up.

Secondly, having the best friend is awesome because

they have fun with you. Having fun is good because

having fun is important when you are a kid. When your

sitting around on your own your awesomely best

friend comes along tells some jokes with you.

Finally, when you have a good friend you can protect

each other from the school bullies. So if a bully says

something mean to a friend then you can protect them or they can protect you.

So having a good friend is great because they can look

after you by cheering you up if your down. Having the

best friend is awesome because they have fun with

you by joking around and telling jokes. Also when you have a good friend beside you can protect each other when you get bullied.

New one:

Pollution
Do you have any ideas on how to solve pollution on the planet? Well if not this explanation is full of ideas how solve the planets pollution. A problem is where for example you are mowing your lawn and the lawn mower breaks. That is when you have a problem. Environmental means relating to the natural world and the impact of human activity on its condition.
One thing someone could do is reduce their use of fossil fuel. We burn coal, oil, natural gas, and gasoline to produce electricity and power our vehicles. When we do this we are creating fossil fuel. Fossil fuel is useful but very very bad to earth.

A second thing someone could do is recycle everything you can. You can recycle: Glass bottles, jars, paper, cardboard, milk bottles, ice-cream containers, margarine and yogurt containers. You can also recycle aluminium, such as soft drink cans and foil trays and steel cans. By recycling everything you can, you are helping the planet.

The last thing someone could do is reduce the use of plastic bags. Not all plastic is recyclable, you know. Because plastic bags aren’t recyclable, we just put them in the bin. And when we put them in the bin, we just drop them. That causes it to get stuck on the top of the bin or not even go in at all. When we just drop it in it flies out when the wind comes and lands in the trees or the ocean. That is how earth is polluted.

So, to stop pollution we can reduce their use of fossil fuels, recycle everything you can and reduce the use of plastic bags. I really do hope that my explanation has given you some thoughts about trying to stop pollution. I am not saying you have to, i’m just giving you ideas.

Free Writing About GrandParents.

This Friday (19.10.18) is our Greats and Grands day. We wrote poems about our grandparents. I did two poems because I have two sets of grandparents. One on my Nana and One on my Grandma. Here they are:

Explanation writing about Grandparents

This Friday (19.10.18) is our Greats and Grands day. On Monday (15.10.18) we did a Pear Deck activity on explanation writing. In the activity we wrote 4 things about our grandparents problems and then chose one to write about. One of my reasons was Poor Eyesight. That is what I did my explanation on. Here is my Explanation:

Grandparents Explanation
Grandparents are people who have had children and those children have had their own children. My explanation is about failing eyesight. Do any of your grandparents have poor eyesight?

Firstly, a lot of old grandparents have poor eyesight. Like my Grandad. He has poor eyesight, and that is why he wears glasses while he reads. Grandparents shoul8d (if they have poor eyesight, otherwise what's the point) wear glasses while they read, cook or do regular day activities.

Secondly, grandparents should write in large writing so that they can see it better. They also can read books with large text so they don’t always need their glasses on while reading.

Thirdly, they could get a dog to help them walk around. Guide dogs are very helpful to the people that need help with walking places or loss of eyesight. Guide dogs will walk you around to places so that you don’t have to find your way around by yourself.

Failing eyesight is bad. I hope that my ideas have gotten you encouraged to try one of them. In the future there should be more ways to help blind people or people that don’t see very well, get around, read and do regular activities.

In week 6 in Term 3, we went on  a Ski Trip down to Tongariro National Park. When we came back we made a factual slide on the things we learnt down there. Because it was Te Reo Language week when we did this, we translated every slide into Maori. Here is my friend and I's google slide about the Tongariro National Park.

Here are two photos of my group during Wacky Wednesday.

Pear Deck Activity

Kia ora
We have been using Pear Deck to help us learn more about sentence structure so that we can get better at noticing where one sentence ends and another one begins. This should also help us get better scores for punctuation. This a screenshot of an activity we did: first we had to highlight the noun and verb parts of the sentences and then we had to decide where the full stops and capital letters should go.

Reading Task: Treaty of Waitangi

Reading week  2 Term 1 2018
This week’s goals:
Learn: How to recognise, ask and answer literal questions.
Success criteria:
Read texts and be able to think of a literal question based on that text.
Use the key words What, Where, Who and When as sentence starters for your literal questions.
Answer literal questions posed by other people.
Create:   DLOs on which to record answers to questions/activities based on the Treaty of Waitangi. (from several sources).
Scroll down for more information and links
On Monday of this week you will be working independently. Go to this document and follow the instructions. You need to read texts attached to the page so that you can answer the questions and create your own DLO to show your learning.
Tuesday: Waitangi Day-You will not be at school.
Wednesday:  You will have a workshop with your teacher.

In order to show that you have met the learning goals above you need to do 2 things with this sheet.

Step 1. Find your named box and write a literal question that could be answered by someone who has just read your text about the Treaty of Waitangi. Step 1 will be completed while you are with the teacher.
Dulcie - Who first began writing the treaty document? W.H was the first to start writing the treaty
Ronan - When was the treaty signed? 6th Feb 1840
Lawrence - Who was the first Maori to sign the treaty ? Hone heke was the first Maori to sign
Georgia - Why did Britain decide to protect the Maori? Because the French wanted to take over New Zealand
Sky

Louisa - Who gave advice to W.H?James busby gave advice to W.H
Sara - What does rangatira mean? Chiefs
Indi - Who translated the treaty into Maori? Henry williams and his son translated the treaty
2. Once all of you have written a literal question in your own box, you each need to make a copy of this document.  Put your copy into your Reading folder in your Google drive. Using your new document, you need to answer each literal question until every box on your new document includes a literal question and its answer.  You will complete Step 2 independently after you have left the teacher. Tomorrow you will have another session with your teacher and your work will be marked.

My Published recount

This is my fixed up recount. I corrected my spelling and made it make more sense.
